Comnet International In 1994, Lucent Technologies (formerly
AT&T) determined that it would exit the business for
Applications Processor (AP) telemanagement products. These products
provide electronic directory service, calling name display, billing,
traffic data analysis, facilities management, and message service
paging to telephone service providers and business customers. Comnet formulated a business plan, which
ultimately resulted in Lucent granting a license to Comnet to
perform R&D and to provide technical support for the AP
products.
Comnet International recruited a team of former Lucent engineers
and managers who had previously worked on the AP products.
The Comnet team coalesced quickly to meet the
demand for new features and platforms requested by the user
community of more than 300 AP customers. Under tight delivery
schedules, the newly formed company quickly ported the AP products
to more robust hardware platforms in part by tapping the resources
of the offshore development center that it established in India. Based on the successful transition of AP
development and support responsibilities to Comnet, Lucent's
interest in applying Comnet's offshore development capabilities to
other projects grew. In 1996, Lucent began to outsource significant
pieces of switching and Intelligent Network development to
Comnet. Since 1994, Comnet and India Comnet have
continued supporting numerous projects and products, growing into a
global, 325+ person full-service consulting company, focusing
exclusively on the telecommunications industry.
